Hello, fellow readers,
Thank you for joining me on this journey as I launch Mindful Data, a space where I’ll share my learnings on sustainability, AI, and finance. You might wonder—why these three topics? At first glance, they may seem unrelated, but for me, they are deeply connected.
The simple answer is: I’m a mom to a three-year-old. The world is changing faster than ever, and I often find myself asking—how do I prepare my child for an uncertain future? Where will he be able to live comfortably without suffering from extreme weather events? What skills should he develop to thrive in a rapidly evolving world? These questions both terrify and motivate me. So, I’ve decided to dive deep into these topics.
As someone trained to write code rather than essays, this blog is also my way of stepping out of my comfort zone—starting with what I love.
Why Sustainability?
Living in San Francisco, my family and I have experienced firsthand the increasing intensity of climate-related disasters—wildfires, heatwaves, atmospheric rivers. I’ll never forget the eerie orange sky over the Bay Area during the pandemic, a haunting reminder of the worsening climate crisis. In December 2024, a storm was so severe that it destroyed Santa Cruz Pier. The planet is warming, and extreme weather events are becoming more frequent.
How can I ensure that, when my son grows up, the world remains a safe and livable place? My first step has been completing my Terra.do fellowship (which wraps up in two weeks) and immersing myself in understanding climate change and its impact.
Why AI?
Since OpenAI introduced ChatGPT, AI has gone from a niche technology to a mainstream force, reshaping the way we work, live, and interact. AI is no longer something only researchers and engineers talk about—it’s in everyone’s hands.
If AI is transforming the world so dramatically, how can I prepare my son for a future that will look nothing like today? Understanding AI is no longer optional; it’s essential. That’s why I’m committed to exploring its evolution, implications, and applications.
Why Finance?
I’m a quantitative researcher and data scientist by training, and I’ve spent my career developing AI models for trading and risk management. Finance is second nature to me. But beyond that, finance underpins everything—AI innovation, climate tech, and every industry in between.
Without a healthy financial ecosystem, how would OpenAI fund the training of expensive large language models? How would climate tech entrepreneurs secure the capital needed to develop groundbreaking solutions? Finance is the foundation that makes innovation possible, and I want to continue sharing insights on its evolving landscape.
